Beirut Design Fair
Beirut Design Fair, one of the most remarkable and trendy events nowadays, took place two weeks ago in the capital of Lebanon. This event which collect exclusive furniture and objects from different galleries and designers around the world started one year ago in 2017, but has taken a lot of popularity in just one year inside of architecture and design fieldwork
Their first edition featured 47 exhibitors, galleries, interior design studios, and young talents who shared with the public all their creations, projects and items.
Galal Mahmoud, a well-known Lebanese architect, knows all over the world, because of his amazing work as a architect, working for Guillaume Tasle (Founder and Director) and Hala Mubala (Co-Founder and Head of Exhibitors Relations), was put in charge of designing all that was related with the scenography and museography effects.
The atmosphere was building by different walls which divide the different exhibition spaces painted in pastel colors, hole with some arches which connected the areas, and where you could pass though and see all the exhibition. The space designed with a minimalistic-contemporary aesthetic conferring the starring to the exhibitors, but helping to connect and concentrate all the different works in the same place, trying to create an unique and open space.
This 2018 edition hosted 19,800 visitors (up by 20% compared to 2017), 58 exhibitors (28% more than in 2017) from the region and for the first time from Europe presenting the creations of 111 designers (up by 26%).
The Object Award was accorded to Fadi Sarieddine who presented personnalizable objects, including during BDF a stand designed as a workshop that left plenty of room for interaction.
Joy Mardini (@jmdesigngallery) was another of our breakthoughs, gallerist from Beirut who collects pieces of different lebanese artist created a limelight and particular space. His section gives you the opportunity to know different emergent artist and you could contact with them and buy their work.
Tarek Elkassouf (@tarekelkassouf_studio) was one of the most inspirational artist for us, because of his color use and material palettes, his work could be used like a moodboard material for a minimalistic architect, and this is one of the trends that we are trying to follow in our projects nowadays. Mixing different marble textures and using geometric studied shapes he could create delicate elements as sculptures, and object that could use to decorate spaces of your house, and give to these spaces more relevance.
Finishing with our artist selection, we want to show you our last recommendation. Iwan Maktabi (@iwanmaktabiofficial) leading carpet gallery specialized in fine antique, modern and designers’ carpets. For his second participation in BDF, Iwan Maktabi will showcase CC-tapis in an unusual stand configuration. The featured designers will be: Bethan Laura Wood (who will be present during the fair), Patricia Urquiola & Ludovica+ Roberto Palomba
